Polish Flint, also called striped flint or banded flint, was formed in the Jurassic limestone in the Sandomierz region of Poland approx. 160 million years ago. A large striped flint deposit is located in Lesser Poland, near the cities of Sandomierz, Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski and Ilza. Because of its rarity and distinctive look, local striped flint is in use today in jewellery and has become a regional export product.
Striped flint was mined by Neolithic people near Krzemionki Opatowskie village around 4,000 BC, and it was used in manufacturing of axes. The irregular banding creates extremely picturesque internal structures making very special designer cabochons.
Metaphysically, Polish Flintstone is said to help those too focused on past hurts to move on -- calms emotional drama. Flint has been used as a weapon or tool since Neolithic times, and believed by ancient tribes to produce protective energy and dispel negativity.
