The venerable pine has been used for many centuries as a medicinal
plant. Native Americans used it to prevent scurvy and repel lice
and fleas; they also burned it with cedar and juniper for purifying
rituals. In addition the needles and shoots have been prepared
in various ways for use with coughs, bronchial complaints, rheumatic
pain and nervous exhaustion.
Unfortunately, there is not much about Pine oil use in aromatherapy
books... Probably because most people associate the scent with
cleaning products -- which is quite unfortunate!
Pine is an invigorating scent with many healing properties. Physically,
all Pine oils are antiseptic, anti-fungal and detoxifying. In
aromatherapy, it is used in saunas, steam baths and massage blends
for sore muscles. The natural evergreen aroma of pine essential
oil is a sweet alternative to harshly medicinal pharmaceutical
preparations.
Other Uses: Alleviating Mental Fatigue, Feelings of Weakness &
Worry. Used as a liniment for rheumatism and muscular pain, and
as a inhailant for bronchitism colds, flue, etc.
