Petitgrain Essential Oil
Latin Botanical Name - Citrus aurantium var. amara
Method of Extraction - Steam Distilled
Country of Origin - Pagaguay
Originally Petitgrain oil was produced in distilleries from unripe
oranges when they were the size of cherries. This explains why
it is named petitgrain – which in French means "little
grains". Nonetheless, this proved to be uneconomical and
so the oil began being extracted from the leaves and twigs of
the orange tree instead. The other essential oils obtained from
the tree are Neroli from the flowers and Orange from the rind
of the fruit.
Scent Description: Fresh, floral, citrusy, lighter in fragrance
than neroli; slightly woody.
Petitgrain oil is widely used in pharmaceutical products and perfumery
and is the classic ingredient of eau-de-cologne.
Petitgrain can ease tension, anxiety, mild depression and other
stress-related disorders.
Other Uses: Acne, fatigue, oily skin, stress. Hypnotic and sedative.
Calming anxiety and panic attacks. Uplifting, and easing the mind,
restoring ones energy. Great nerve tonic.
